When Is the Best Time

When Is the Best Time

This waterfall is a popular year-round attraction in the Swabian Alps. Weekends and summer holiday are overcrowded. It looks like a pilgrims' path even in the evening. The flow of the waterfall is best after rainfall and during the thawing period. The flow can be between 70 and more than 400 liters each second.

In winter the waterfall can freezes which looks terrific. The sunlight is best in the morning, and it is not that busy.

Although there are several car parks, they fill up soon from midday onwards in the summer. The large car park area is called P 23, and the fee is 2 € until 4 p.m. Afterwards parking is for free.

Where and Tips

Bad Urach

The waterfall is nestled in a beautiful landscape in Bad Urach. It is a famous and easy trail of less than 2 km one way along Brühlbach (a stream). The stream has some pools which are big enough for a dip to cool down in the summer. The waterfall is 37 meters high and runs another 50 meters over moss covered limestone. A steep trail leads to the top of the waterfall.

There are several hiking options, and as soon as you left the waterfall area, you will encounter fewer people. It is a nice and steep trail to Rutschenfelsen a huge rock with a stunning view.

Hiking trails for the Swabian Alps

This place is beautiful. We went on a weekend in the summer and it was busy. a lot of tourists. There is parking available for a fee then a nice stroll to the falls following a creek bed. toward the end of the falls, you will start to climb stairs. all along the stairs are different views of the falls. you can even go under the waterfall!
The trail continues but we went back. next to the falls is an elevated cave. I climbed up to it. It is a risky path so only climb if you are experienced. Well worth the trip!
